Money-saving should not take the back seat irrespective of how much an individual earns.
It is not true that a low-income earner in Nigeria cannot save money. There is this saying that a person who can save when he/she earns little can do much more when his/her income becomes bigger.
I say your little beginning is preparing you ahead of what is to come.
Oftentimes low-income earners are engaged as casual workers with no access to health schemes from their employers.
There are certain actions low-income earner takes that makes saving money becomes difficult.
This article will dwell on realistic ways that low-income earners can save money.
HERE ARE FEW WAYS ;
1]EAT IN MODERATION
Years back when I moved to Lagos, I was engaged in a casual job with a low income and no health scheme provided. I had a colleague that will eat lunch together. On our way to the food vendor, he will buy cigarettes, soft drinks, kunu (kunu is prepared from grains ). Then it is time to buy food, he buys rice, beans with 3 to 4 pieces of meat. I will tell him guy you spending too much on food. I had to relive my experience just to get the message across.
This is how so many of the low-income earners live. I still see it here in my present place of work. You do need to eat 3 to 4 pieces of beef meat. A piece of meat is enough.
You can't continue to be a low-income earner, you should be working towards stepping up.
2]BUY LOW BUDGET SMARTPHONE
The importance of smartphones in our society today is enormous. As a low income earner, you should save to buy a low budget smartphone that can enable you to surf the internet. I said save because you are entitled to it, if only you save and buy it. Never luxuriate over these latest expensive smartphones. All you need is a smartphone that you can use for emails, read pdf books etc. By doing this you can save money, it might be very little but it counts.
3]STAY AWAY FROM BARS AND CLUBS
It is Friday you have received your wages, what is next to do with the money? Go clubbing with friends weekend? No. Remember you have got to save from that money first. There are the essentials like your rent, light bills, food etc create a budget for them. Fun-seeking places are not ideal for low income earners.
4]ASSOCIATE WITH PEOPLE THAT SHARE THE SAME GOALS AS YOURS
Your goal is to save money from your little earning. Persons that share the same thoughts with you should be your associate. This is very important to everyone, I have seen friends influence rob off on others positively and negatively.
All you need in this stage of your career are positive influences that will be keep you focused.
Remember I relive my experiences earlier working as a casual and a colleague we go for lunch together. I had to cut off from him because he does not share the same goals as mine.
5]SPEND LESS ON INTERNET DATA BUNDLE
It amazes me when I see someone on a low income purchasing a high-cost internet data bundle just to stream the latest comedy skits, music videos etc streaming videos consume so much data. You can't save doing this. You need an internet bundle for your emails, apply for jobs, read books etc.
You can enable data saving mode when browsing just to reduce your data usage.
TAKEAWAY
The goal is to pay yourself first from your income, that is saving money. Saving money is not dependent on how much you earn.
This a great piece of advice. Thank you Engr Omoruyi
Great piece there! In addition, no matter how minute your income is, learn how to grow it. Look for a way to invest part of it. I know it's not easy, but note that nothing is easy either, the only easy thing is to spend. When there is a will, there is a way. Key - make savings and investment a habit.
God bless u for this , there is this saying that he who fail to plan plan to fail, ur spending and expenses should be base on ur income
